The Perfect Get-Away

My husband and I love to get away alone at least once each summer so we can enjoy our day together. No kids, no phone, no interruptions, just pure serenity. We find quiet solitude on the slate blue waters of Beaver Lake, Arkansas.

Renting the pontoon from the friendly couple who owns Starkey’s Marina, we pull away from the dock and are surrounded by the Ozark Mountains and their variety of forest trees and foliage. As my husband mans the pontoon while I lounge on the cushioned benched seats, we glide across the water with a warm breeze blowing in our faces. We marvel at the lake’s sights such as a family of deer grazing on the shore, cranes swooping down just above the water, squirrels jumping from tree to tree, fish jumping out of the water, and beautiful picture window homes that are few and far between. We usually find a cove to drop anchor and swim and fish. We spend the day moving from cove to cove taking in the natural beauty. The peacefulness settles the soul. Unlike the crowded lakes north of Beaver, few boats are on the clear, shimmering water, creating a serene haven.

Hi sholland10, this looks so pretty. Tell me, is all of the 'South' this pretty. I plan to move to Florida one day, mainly because of my love of lakes. However, I've noticed that other places in the South have really pretty looking lakes as well. What state in the USA has the most lakes?

Voted up on your wonderful hub

John

@Trsmd - we do love going to the lake! :-)

@John - Florida and the MO/ARK areas are very different. I love visiting Florida because the beach is never too far away. We don't have alligators in SW MO or NW ARK. LOL The two areas are completely different. Both have their own charms, though. :-)

Thank you both for dropping by! :-)
